KARACHI: Karachi Press Club signed a memorandum of understanding with Community Policing Karachi to promote environmentally friendly activities and tree plantation, as part of efforts to address climate change and rising pollution.
A ceremony was held at the press club where more than 500 saplings of different varieties were distributed among its members. The plants included gulmohar, moringa, sukh chain, neem and arjun.
Speaking at the event, the president of the Karachi Press Club, Fazil Jamili, said tree plantation had become an urgent necessity due to climate change and increasing pollution. He said the journalist community had always taken an active part in public welfare and positive activities, and described the campaign as an important step in that direction. He added that if every citizen planted even one tree, Karachi could be made green and beautiful again.
The club’s secretary, Aslam Khan, said raising awareness among citizens about tree plantation was essential to ensure a clean, healthy and better environment for future generations. He said such initiatives strengthened not only environmental protection but also a sense of social responsibility.
The chief of Community Policing Karachi, Murad Soni, said the aim of community policing was not limited to maintaining law and order but also included promoting social and welfare activities alongside the public. He said trees were vital for human life and played a key role in reducing air pollution, urging citizens to plant more saplings in their homes, neighbourhoods and along roads.
At the end of the ceremony, participants expressed their commitment to making the city greener, more beautiful and free from pollution.
Among those present were governing body member Akhtar Somro, Fareed Alam, former president Saeed Sarbazi, former secretary Muhammad Rizwan Bhatti, Fida Abbasi, Naseer Ahmed, Sardar Aamir Khan, Dr Abdul Jabbar Khan and Abdul Hafeez Baloch, along with a large number of press club members.
