KHAIRPUR: The Khairpur District Council has approved its Rs999.8 million budget for the 2026-27 financial year by a majority vote, allocating more than Rs315.7 million for development projects across the district.
The budget session was held at the District Council Hall under the chairmanship of Nadir Shaukat Rajpar. It was attended by Vice Chairman Syed Fahad Ali Shah Jillani, Chief Officer Zohaib Ahmed Memon, elected council members and senior officials.
Presenting the budget, Rajpar said it had been prepared with a focus on the needs of underdeveloped areas and aimed to improve basic public services, accelerate development work and expand welfare initiatives.
He said the council’s main sources of revenue included the OZT share, conditional grants, immovable property tax, various fees and other financial resources.
The budget includes allocations for employees’ salaries, pensions, routine administrative expenses, scholarships, social welfare grants, disaster management and funds for Umrah for employees and elected representatives.
More than Rs315.7 million has been earmarked for development schemes, including water supply and drainage projects, the construction of CC block roads and bridges, boundary walls for graveyards and Eidgahs, solar street lights, the installation of RCC pipes, handicraft centres for women and other public welfare projects.
The chairman said Rs10 million had been allocated for emergency response, Rs500,000 for religious festivals of minority communities, Rs1 million for the local press club and Rs200,000 for the bar council.
At the end of the meeting, Rajpar thanked council members for approving the budget and expressed hope that joint efforts would ensure the timely implementation of development projects, improve public services and support balanced development across the district.
