KARACHI: Mayor Karachi Murtaza Wahab, in his message on Labor Day, said that workers were the backbone of any society’s development and that without their hard work and dedication the dream of progress remained incomplete.
The mayor said May 1 served as a reminder of the sacrifices and struggles of the working class and the need to protect their rights, adding that it was a day to renew commitment towards their welfare. He said the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation was striving to provide better facilities to its workers and had prioritized their welfare.
Wahab noted that sanitation workers, drainage staff and those maintaining parks and other civic services played a vital role in keeping the city functioning smoothly. He said the current city administration was taking practical steps to address workers’ issues, including timely payment of salaries, implementation of safety measures and provision of a better working environment.
Mayor emphasized that protecting workers’ rights was not a one-day obligation but a continuous responsibility at all levels. On the occasion of Labor Day, he stressed the need to reaffirm the commitment to building a society where every worker received dignity, justice and their due rights. He paid tribute to workers, saying their tireless efforts remained the true guarantee of Karachi’s progress.
