ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department has forecast a severe heatwave across the country from today until May 31, warning of a sharp rise in temperatures in multiple regions.
According to the department, maximum temperatures are expected to remain 5 to 7 degrees Celsius above normal during this period, intensifying heat conditions across southern and central parts of the country.
Cities including Sukkur, Jacobabad, Larkana, Mohenjo Daro, Dadu, Shaheed Benazirabad, Hyderabad, Sibbi, Turbat, Dera Ghazi Khan and Multan are expected to experience extreme heat, with temperatures likely to reach between 47 and 50 degrees Celsius. Karachi is forecast to record temperatures between 35 and 38 degrees Celsius.
On Sunday, Jacobabad recorded 47°C, while Dadu reached 49°C, making it the hottest location in the country. Shaheed Benazirabad and Mohenjo Daro recorded 48°C, while Sibi and Larkana also saw temperatures close to 47°C.
Other cities such as Sukkur and Nokundi recorded 46°C, Multan and Dera Ghazi Khan 43°C, Lahore 39°C, and Islamabad and Peshawar 37°C. Karachi and Muzaffarabad recorded 35°C, Quetta 33°C, and Gilgit 27°C.
Authorities have advised citizens to avoid direct sun exposure, stay hydrated and take precautionary measures during the ongoing heatwave.
