ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has launched a new trade corridor to Iran and Central Asia, marking a major shift in regional connectivity and logistics.
The move is expected to reduce transport costs and improve export efficiency.
The National Logistics Corporation has activated the Gwadar border terminal for the Transit International Routier (TIR) system, enabling smoother cross-border trade through Iran.
Under the new arrangement, Pakistan’s trade routes to Central Asian markets will now operate via Iran, offering a shorter and more secure alternative to traditional Afghan transit routes.
Officials said the first shipment of meat from Karachi to Tashkent was successfully dispatched under the TIR framework after customs clearance at the Gwadar terminal.
Experts believe the development will significantly reduce logistical costs and improve export access to Central Asia, while positioning Pakistan as a regional connectivity hub with enhanced trade links to multiple markets.
