RAWALPINDI:: Police stopped the convoy of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi at the Gorakhpur Factory checkpoint in Rawalpindi as he travelled to meet the jailed founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at Adiala Jail.
According to reports, Afridi arrived at the checkpoint with official protocol and was accompanied by members of his cabinet. Police personnel prevented the convoy from proceeding beyond the checkpoint, where the chief minister and his delegation remained for some time.
Meanwhile, the PTI founder’s sisters, Noreen Niazi and Uzma Khan, also reached the Factory checkpoint in an effort to visit their brother at Adiala Jail.
The reasons for stopping the convoy were not immediately disclosed by authorities. The development led to heightened activity around the area as party leaders and supporters monitored the situation.
The incident comes amid continued political tensions surrounding access to the PTI founder, who remains incarcerated at Adiala Jail. Visits by party leaders, family members and supporters have frequently attracted attention and have at times been subject to administrative and security restrictions.
No official statement had been issued by police or jail authorities regarding the duration of the restrictions or whether the visitors would eventually be allowed to proceed.
