BAKU: The Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, said the province’s housing initiatives had attracted considerable international attention during her visit to Azerbaijan, where Punjab’s pavilion at a global urban development forum became a central point of engagement for visiting delegates, policymakers and urban planning experts.
She inaugurated the Punjab Pavilion at the World Urban Forum in Baku, where officials said the exhibition drew sustained interest from international media representatives and development practitioners. The display was positioned as an overview of Punjab’s recent urban policy interventions, with a particular focus on low-cost housing delivery and large-scale construction models.
A key feature of the pavilion was the government’s flagship housing program, “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar”, which was presented as a rapid-response public housing initiative aimed at improving home ownership access for lower and middle-income households. A documentary highlighting completed housing units under the scheme was also screened for visiting delegations.
According to provincial officials, more than 100,000 housing units have been completed within approximately a year under the program, a figure that was showcased to international participants as evidence of accelerated delivery in the housing sector. The claim formed a central part of the government’s pitch on policy efficiency and construction speed.
During the exhibition, the Chief Minister interacted with international visitors and urban development experts, with discussions reportedly focusing on housing affordability, scalable construction models and the role of public sector-led development in addressing urban population pressures. Delegates were said to have shown interest in Punjab’s approach to integrating welfare objectives with infrastructure planning.
