KARACHI: The Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) said it had arrested three suspected members of a robbery gang during an intelligence-based operation in the Rashidabad area of Karachi on 20 April.
According to a press release, the suspects were identified as Zohaib Shah, also known as Babu, son of Khalid Shah and said to be the gang’s ringleader, along with Shehryar, also known as Mota, son of Chand Shah, and Atta ur Rehman, also known as Maseet, son of Zubair Ahmed Khan. All three were said to be associated with the so-called “Hazara gang”.
Rangers said three mobile phones and cash were recovered from the suspects.
According to the statement, the arrested men had been involved in multiple incidents of motorcycle theft, mobile phone snatching and cash robberies across different areas of Karachi. During initial questioning, the suspects disclosed that over the past three years they had been involved in stealing around three to four motorcycles each month, while on a daily basis they snatched four to six mobile phones and between Rs40,000 and Rs50,000 in cash.
They said the stolen mobile phones and motorcycles were later sold at low prices.
Rangers said raids were under way to arrest other accomplices linked to the group. The suspects had been handed over to police for further legal action.
The force appealed to the public to report criminal activity to the nearest Rangers checkpost, the Rangers helpline 1101 or the Rangers Madadgar WhatsApp number, assuring that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
