KARACHI: The Rotary Club of Karachi Nexus organized its Annual Governor Visit program at Ramada Creek, where District Governor Shakeel Qaimkhani attended as the chief guest. A large number of members participated in the event, including district officials and newly inducted members.
The ceremony began with the recitation of the Holy Quran, followed by a high tea session and the national anthem. Fawad Sheikh delivered the welcome address, while Ali Haider formally welcomed the Governor. Both speakers highlighted the club’s annual progress and ongoing community initiatives.
According to organizers, the program was attended by District Nominee Fahad Sikandar, District Governor Designate Abdul Jabbar Sheikh and District Secretary Furqan Sheikh, along with several senior members including Dr Khalid Sheikh, Salman Javed, Naeemullah Khan, Syed Turab Shah, Chaudhry Ansar Javed, Farah Javed, Naeem Bukhari and others.
Fawad Sheikh said the club had presented its annual report to the Governor, noting appreciation for his leadership and continued engagement with Rotary initiatives over the past year.
Secretary General Muhammad Ali Haider presented an eleven-month progress report, stating that welfare projects worth Rs150 million had been completed across multiple sectors, with further initiatives planned. He also highlighted the club’s involvement in education, health and community development programs.
He said the club had become the second-largest Rotary club in the district in terms of membership and service activity, with membership rising from 37 to 54, and expected to reach 60 in the coming period.
Ali Haider also outlined the “Sindh Mulk Project”, developed in collaboration with UNICEF and the Sindh education authorities, aimed at addressing out-of-school children. He said the initiative would run for three years and has been launched as a pilot project in selected districts, including Karachi Kemari.
He described it as a flagship initiative following polio-related programs, noting that millions of children remain out of school in Pakistan and require urgent intervention through education and skills development.
During the event, distinguished members were recognized for their services. Rashid Hashmi and Chaudhry Ansar Javed received shields from the Governor for outstanding contributions, while Ana Haider and Fahad Ansari were acknowledged for volunteer work.
Former presidents Dr Khalid Sheikh, Junaid Hamid and Khurram Anis presented bouquets to guests, while Aslam Khaliq thanked participants for their contribution to the event’s success. The Governor also took a group photograph with members and presented honorary pins to 10 new inductees.
