TANDO ALLAHYAR: The cattle market in Tando Allahyar has been decorated ahead of Eid al-Adha, with animal prices rising sharply as a large number of citizens arrive to purchase sacrificial animals.
On the occasion of Eid al-Adha, residents visited the cattle market on the Tando Allahyar bypass to select animals for sacrifice, as they prepared to observe the Sunnah of Ibrahim. Citizens said inflation had made the religious obligation increasingly difficult to afford.
Prices of cows, bulls, goats, sheep and rams have surged significantly. Residents said an animal that cost around Rs200,000 last year was now being sold for between Rs400,000 and Rs600,000, while goats were being sold for more than Rs100,000.
Despite the increase in prices, people continued to purchase animals, while traders said they were struggling to receive fair returns. They said livestock was raised throughout the year on expensive fodder, but market prices were not covering their costs.
Alongside purchasing animals, citizens were also buying decorative items to adorn sacrificial animals, adding colour and activity to the market.
The interaction between buyers and sellers over prices is expected to continue until Eid al-Adha.
