KARACHI: Elon Musk reportedly placed a valuation of $60bn on an artificial intelligence startup co-founded by a young entrepreneur from Karachi, according to British media reports, in a move that underscored rising global interest in emerging AI ventures.
The company, Cursor, was founded by Saleh Asif along with three partners, all under the age of 30. The startup has attracted attention for its work in artificial intelligence and developer-focused tools, gaining traction in a highly competitive global market.
Reports said a company linked to Musk had secured an option to acquire the firm at the $60bn valuation, with discussions also pointing to a potential partnership stake estimated at around $10bn. While details of the arrangement remained limited, the reported figures placed the startup among the most highly valued young AI firms globally.
The development was seen as a notable milestone for Pakistan’s growing technology ecosystem, particularly in Karachi, where a new generation of entrepreneurs has increasingly drawn international attention. Analysts said such high-profile interest could encourage further investment in locally founded startups, especially in artificial intelligence and software development.
Industry observers noted that while the reported valuation highlighted strong investor confidence, it also reflected the broader surge in global AI funding, where early-stage companies have commanded significant valuations amid intense competition and rapid innovation.
