MOSCOW: The organizing committee of the third Russia–Africa summit, scheduled for 28–29 October 2026, has met in Moscow to review preparations and outline the agenda for the high-level gathering, alongside the accompanying Russia–Africa Economic and Humanitarian Forum.
Officials discussed the development of what they described as a broader framework for cooperation between Russia and African states, with a strong emphasis on economic engagement, institutional coordination and long-term strategic planning.
Yury Ushakov, aide to the president of the Russian Federation and chairman of the organizing committee, said Russia and African countries continued to maintain “positive momentum” in their cooperation despite what he described as a complex international environment. He noted that the previous summits in 2019 and 2023 had reinforced mutual interest and marked a significant step in strengthening relations.
“The summits in 2019 and 2023 essentially provided a new impetus to Russia–Africa interaction. We now have to carry out serious and extensive work to prepare for the third summit. It is important that we place particular emphasis on the economic dimension of our relations,” Ushakov said.
Preparatory discussions have focused on strengthening institutional mechanisms, expanding diplomatic engagement across Africa and advancing agreements for intergovernmental commissions. Priority areas include trade, investment, logistics, energy, food security, high technology and humanitarian cooperation.
Officials also stressed the importance of shaping a practical economic agenda for the summit, with African partners reportedly expressing interest in localizing manufacturing, developing infrastructure and digital services, workforce training, and expanding cooperation in industry, pharmaceuticals and artificial intelligence.
