BANNU: Three security personnel were killed and three others injured in a suspected suicide blast targeting a security forces vehicle on the Indus Highway in Bannu district, according to security sources.
The incident triggered an immediate response from police, security forces and rescue teams, which reached the site shortly after the explosion. The area was swiftly cordoned off as authorities launched a search operation aimed at securing the surrounding vicinity and identifying any possible facilitators or accomplices linked to the attack.
The injured personnel were shifted to a nearby hospital, where they were provided emergency medical treatment. Hospital officials were placed on alert as additional security was deployed in and around the facility following the casualties.
Initial assessments from the scene suggested the explosion was the result of a suicide attack, though officials stressed that investigations were still at an early stage. A formal inquiry has been initiated, with evidence being collected to establish the exact nature of the blast and the circumstances in which it occurred.
Security officials said the focus of the ongoing operation was to determine whether the attacker acted alone or was part of a wider network operating in the region. Forensic teams were also examining the site for material evidence that could assist in identifying those responsible.
Authorities indicated that further details would be shared as the investigation progressed, while security across the district was tightened as a precautionary measure following the incident.
The attack adds to a continuing pattern of violence targeting security forces in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, where intermittent militant activity has persisted despite ongoing counterterrorism operations.
