WASHINGTON: The White House has said that President Donald Trump has not set any formal deadline for a ceasefire with Iran, leaving the timing to be determined by the commander-in-chief.
White House spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that Iran would be required to hand over enriched uranium as part of any agreement, while adding that Trump is allowing a few days for Tehran to present a unified response.
She noted that a temporary ceasefire could remain in place during this period of negotiations.
Leavitt also said the US president was satisfied with the ongoing blockade in the Strait of Hormuz, despite recent developments involving Iran taking control of two international vessels. She added that Washington does not consider the incident a violation of the ceasefire, as the ships were neither American nor Israeli.
The spokesperson further claimed that divisions within Iran’s leadership were complicating negotiations, with Trump seeking a coordinated response from Tehran.
Leavitt also defended the administration’s economic pressure campaign, asserting that it had significantly weakened Iran’s financial position.
