SUKKUR: A technical officer of the World Health Organization has visited the Gambat Liver Transplant Department, expressing satisfaction over its clinical performance and standards of patient care during a review of the facility.
Dr Eman Hewidy, accompanied by senior officials, toured the department alongside Director Dr Rahim Bux Bhatti, where she reviewed operational procedures and interacted with medical staff. She praised the intensive care unit teams, including doctors and nurses, for their professionalism, teamwork and sustained commitment to patient treatment.
The visiting delegation also included senior WHO representatives Dr Benedetta Allegranzi, Dr Farah Sabih and Dr Rosamund Lewis, who observed the functioning of the facility and its transplant services.
During the visit, Dr Abdul Wahab Dogar briefed the delegation on the department’s progress, stating that more than 1,000 liver transplant procedures had been successfully carried out free of cost.
He said the institution remained committed to delivering healthcare services based on transparency, medical ethics and equal access for all patients.
The WHO officials acknowledged the scale of work being undertaken at the facility and noted the importance of maintaining high clinical standards in specialised transplant medicine.
The visit concluded with appreciation for the hospital’s continued efforts in advancing liver care services in Gambat, particularly in providing complex surgical treatment without financial burden on patients.
