KARACHI: Ziauddin University, in collaboration with the Karachi Editors Club, organised a workshop on the mental health and well-being of media professionals, focusing on the psychological pressures faced by journalists working in demanding environments.
Titled “Protecting the Mind Behind the News: Building Psychological Resilience in Journalism,” the workshop explored the impact of stress, trauma and high-pressure reporting on journalists, while offering practical strategies to strengthen emotional resilience and psychological well-being.
The session was led by Jamshed Ahmed, who shared techniques for managing stress, developing healthy coping mechanisms and maintaining mental well-being while working in challenging field conditions.
The workshop aimed to raise awareness of the psychological challenges faced by reporters and encourage resilience through practical approaches to managing workplace pressures.
Speaking at the event, Amir Shahzad said journalists play a vital role in informing society, often at considerable personal cost. He said supporting their mental well-being is as important as enhancing their professional skills and expressed hope that such initiatives would help foster greater awareness of psychological health within the media community.
Mubasher Mir welcomed the initiative, noting that journalists frequently work under intense pressure and that greater attention to mental health is essential for building a healthier and more resilient media profession.
Manzar Naqvi also stressed the importance of regular awareness programmes that equip journalists with practical tools to cope with workplace stress and emotional challenges.
The workshop concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session, allowing participants to share their experiences and engage directly with the speaker. Certificates were presented to participants by Prof Dr Jamshed Ahmed at the end of the event.
